Fluorite - Fluorspar

Fluorite or fluorspar is a naturally occurring mineral that belongs to the halides. The chemical formula is CaF2, so it is a calcium fluoride. As the most important fluoric mineral, fluorite is economically very significant.

Mineral deposits

We carry out mining in South-East Morocco through our subsidiary company Thiele Perlite. Our mining operation extracts fluorite from a high-grade mineral vein deposit. The average CaF2-content of the glasslike ore is significantly more than 90% and can reach up to 98%.

Applications for fluorite

Fluorite has various applications depending on the type of the deposit, quantity and type of other minerals and is classified accordingly:

  • Metallurgical grade fluorspar (metspar)
Flux in steel and cast iron production
  • Acid spar (acid grade fluorspar)
A source material for the production of hydrofluoric acid for the chemical industry,  synthetic cryolite and aluminium fluoride
  • Glass and ceramic grade fluorspar
For production of glaze, enamel and frit as well as for manufacturing welding electrodes
  • Optical fluorite
Highest quality, transparent fluorite used for production of optical lenses, prisms and lenses for UV and IR-spectroscopy as well as high-performance lasers

Trading format:

Fluorite crude ore - Industrial MineralsCrude ore shipped as bulk cargo or in containers from Nador or Casablanca harbour.
